Ingredients Needed For This Blue Juice Mocktail Drink

  1. Ice: I’ve used standard ice cubes, but you can add crushed ice, sphere ice cubes, pebble ice cubes, etc.
  2. Blue curacao syrup: Since this is a mocktail, we will be skipping the blue curacao liquor and using the syrup instead which is nothing but sugar syrup flavored with lemon and oranges and tinted with blue food dye.
  3. Lemon juice: Can also be substituted with lime juice. Whatever you choose to use, make sure it’s freshly squeezed, as it makes a noticeable difference in the overall flavor given that there are few ingredients used here.
  4. Sprite: Instead of lemonade that’s used to make a blue lagoon mocktail, we will be using sprite here. Using lemonade will make this mocktail too sweet!

Recipe Tips For This Blue Juice Mocktail Drink And Variations

This recipe is quick and easy, that just uses a handful of ingredients. But I’d like to share some tips and variations so that you can adapt this recipe to suit your taste.

  • Cocktail: For an alcoholic version add a shot of vodka, light rum, or gin.
  • Sweetness: I have not added any simple syrup or sugar in this mocktail since the blue curacao syrup along with the sprite imparts ample sweetness. In fact, I’ve cut back on the blue curacao syrup because I don’t think it makes for a good 1:1 substitution for the curacao liquor.
  • Club soda: You may skip the sprite and use sparkling water or club soda instead. Increase the blue curacao syrup to 1 oz (2 tablespoons or 30 ml). The rest of the procedure will stay the same. After adding the club soda, taste and check for sweetness. The increased curacao syrup will provide enough sweetness, but if it’s less for you, add 1 oz of simple syrup or sweeten it to taste.
  • Orange flavor: You can also add a couple of tablespoons of orange juice for that added orange flavor to replicate the flavor of the blue curacao liquor. This will change the color of the drink towards a greenish tint though.

  • A hint of heat: Spice up this drink by adding some chili pepper simple syrup, simple ginger syrup, or ginger juice.
  • Chill your glassware: This is a matter of personal choice, but doing so will keep the mocktail cold for a longer time and prevent the ice from melting quickly. Chill the glass in the fridge for 30 minutes. Also, remember to chill the ingredients for the drink. You could eliminate the use of ice if you’d like.
  • Make a blue lagoon mojito mocktail: Muddle 8 to 10 large mint leaves along with 1 oz (2 tablespoons) of lime juice in a highball glass. Top with ice cubes, add 1 oz (2 tablespoons) of blue curacao syrup, and top with 3 to 4 oz of club soda or sprite. Again check for sweetness and adjust accordingly.
  • Ice: If all the ingredients are chilled, ice can be skipped

How Blue Juice Mocktail Drink Can Improve Your Health

The difference between a mocktail and a cocktail is more than merely eliminating the alcohol. It’s enjoying the several health benefits that come with making this change. Here are six health benefits of mocktails:

  1. More Nutrients. When you’re making your mocktails at home, you have full say over what you put in them. Adding fruits with antioxidants, herbs like mint, and spices like cinnamon all go a long way toward improving your overall health.
  2. No Hangovers. Many factors can contribute to hangovers, but the main two issues are dehydration and the toxic effects of alcohol on the body. Additionally, alcohol messes with your sleep quality and can leave you feeling groggy in the morning. With a mocktail, you won’t experience any of these issues.

More

  1. Not Addictive. There’s no such thing as becoming a mock-aholic. Alcohol triggers an endorphin release to the brain that leads to a sensation of pleasure. Research shows that this process can bring a craving for more alcohol, leading to alcohol abuse and addiction. Cut the alcohol to cut that risk.
  2. They Hydrate. Unlike alcohol, which is a potent diuretic, mocktails can hydrate your body — especially if you use coconut water and sparkling mineral water as your mocktail base.
  3. They’re Safe. Because mocktails contain no alcohol, anyone can drink them, including pregnant women and children. If you’re chronically ill, a mocktail is a tasty alternative to the real thing and won’t compromise your health further.
  4. Disease Prevention. Alcohol is a carcinogen that can increase your risk of colon and breast cancers. Drinking too much alcohol can also wreak havoc on your gut and liver health. Switching to healthy mocktails for just a month can improve markers associated with cancer, as well as give your gut and liver a chance to rest and heal.
