Why You Will Love Honey Almond Butter?

Cheap – Almond butter can be really expensive in the shops, but if you can bulk buy almonds then making it yourself is much cheaper. You usually only find flavored nut butter in specialty stores too, and they can be pricey.

Adaptable – We have added honey and vanilla to flavor it, but there are a few other options for flavoring it that we have added below. You can even use different nuts.

No waste – The great thing about making it yourself is that you can make exactly the amount you need, so nothing goes to waste.

Easy – This is so easy. We have roasted the almonds first, as we think it gives a better flavor. But other than that, it is as simple as blending it all up. I have also written an article on Crunchy Almond Chocolate Bark Recipe to Make.

Honey Almond Butter Ingredients

A bowl of almonds, a pot of honey, a small bowl of coconut oil, and a dish of vanilla, all with text overlay labels.

Almonds – We used standard skin-on almonds, as they are the cheapest to buy and you can usually buy them in bulk.

Honey – This is what sweetens the almond butter. Buy the best quality that you can afford, as you really can taste the difference.

Vanilla – This adds so much flavor. Use vanilla extract rather than essence.

Coconut oil – This helps to loosen up the mixture a little, which makes it easier to blend. But it also gives it that creamy and silky texture.

Salt – Just a pinch of salt adds so much flavor and balances out the sweetness of the honey perfectly. You could leave it out though if you prefer.

Preheat your oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Mix the melted coconut oil and honey.

Spread the almonds over a lined baking tray, pour over the honey/coconut oil mixture, and mix until all the almonds are coated. Put in the oven for 15 minutes. Once roasted, remove from the oven and allow to cool for 30 minutes.

Put the roasted almonds, vanilla, any remaining honey, and salt (if using) into a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth. You will need to keep stopping the blender and pushing the mixture down. This can take up to 20 minutes.

Honey Almond Butter Variations

There are a couple of ways that you can adjust this recipe. Firstly, you can change the nuts that are used. Sure, this is almond butter, but why not try making honey and vanilla cashew butter? Or even pecan or peanut butter?

You can even use a mixture of nuts. You can also adjust the flavors that are used. One of our favorite ways to do that is to make a chocolate version of this. A couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder adds a lovely richness to the nut butter. You can read more about Best Healthy Snacks to Eat When Junk Food Cravings Hit.

How to Use Honey Almond Butter?

To be honest, we are happy to just eat it out of a jar with a spoon! But that isn’t the healthiest choice. Luckily, there are so many different ways to serve this, and here are some of our favorites:

  • Dip apple slices in it
  • Put it in porridge
  • Spread on Banana Bread
  • On toast
  • As a pancake topping
  • On waffles
  • Add it to a smoothie
  • In a croissant
  • Melt and drizzle over ice cream
  • Dip strawberries in it
  • As a cake frosting

Extra Tips

Making this recipe is pretty loud! So maybe don’t make it whilst anyone is trying to sleep, work, or on an important phone call.

You can add some extra flavor to this vanilla almond butter with a pinch of cinnamon. It works with nutmeg or ginger too.

Buy raw almonds and roast them yourself, rather than buying roasted almonds. This will save you a lot of money.

This would make a lovely homemade gift. Buy a fancy jar with a lid and then fill it up with your homemade almond butter and wrap a pretty ribbon around it. You can get more from this video.

How Long Does Almond Butter Last?

Honey Almond Butter Health Benefits

Promotes Heart Health

Almond butter is high in monounsaturated fats (about 5 grams per tablespoon). Monounsaturated fats help to reduce LDL cholesterol (the “bad” kind) and raise HDL cholesterol (the “good” kind).

A review on tree nuts and peanuts concluded that higher nut intake can be beneficial to overall health. The researchers concluded that eating nuts is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as total cancer and all-cause mortality. It also reduced the risk of mortality from respiratory disease, diabetes, and infections.

An earlier study on almonds also showed that they helped lower coronary heart disease risk. Another on 56 Tasty Healthy Desserts For You.

Honey Almond Butter Supports Bone Health

Almonds are high in calcium, which is good for strong bones, normal blood clotting, and proper muscle and nerve function. They’re also high in magnesium, which helps the body absorb calcium.

Magnesium is essential for the formation of healthy bones. Almonds make an excellent plant-based source of these minerals to help ward off issues with bone health that can occur on a plant-based diet.

Honey Almond Butter May Help Control Blood Sugar

Magnesium is also essential for hundreds of different biochemical processes that take place in your body every day, such as regulating blood sugar levels and blood pressure.

One study of magnesium supplements found that they helped with blood sugar control in people with diabetes and improved insulin sensitivity in people at risk of diabetes.

Another study found similar effects with almonds themselves (rather than magnesium supplements).

Repairs Cell Damage

The vitamin E in almonds contains antioxidants, which help repair damage caused by oxidative stress. Antioxidants also can reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and some cancers.

Almonds have significantly more vitamin E than other tree nuts and also have other healthy antioxidant compounds, such as polyphenols and flavonoids.

May Aid Weight Management

Some research suggests that almonds may help adults with high cholesterol lose weight. But it is not known if eating almond butter would have the same effect.

Almonds are tree nuts, and tree nut allergies are among the eight most common food allergies in the United States. About 0.5% to 1% of the U.S. population is affected.

An allergy to one tree nut does not necessarily mean a person is allergic to other tree nuts. But if you have an allergy to another tree nut, you should avoid almonds and almond butter until you know if they are safe for you.

If you are allergic to peanuts, which are technically a legume and not a nut, you should still be cautious with almonds and other tree nuts. Around 30% of people allergic to peanuts are also allergic to almonds.

If you think you or your child may have an allergy to peanuts or almonds, talk to a healthcare provider about diagnosis and management.
